Xavier had his "6 month" appointment today, even though he will be 7 months on Saturday. The appointment was pushed back due to the VCUG. Last month Xavier also had an ultrasound. Today we received the results from both procedures... everything is normal! Yay! He even gets to stop taking his medication!! Woot Woot!!
We still have to put the cream on the foreskin due to the fact that it's not quite as "open" as the doctor would like it to be. The good news is we only have to do it once a day now. It's my least favourite, I feel like I'm violating him somehow, so Papa does it :)
I still don't have a voice by the way, it's not a whisper, but it's not normal either!

Big surprise party extravaganza!!
Today I held a surprise birthday party for my Mom's 65th here at my house. There were more than 40 people in and out of my house, with kids here, there and everwhere (but mostly outside). We were supposed to have showers in the afternoon, but they never came, so I'm ever so grateful for that. It was nice to be able to go outside, sit on the deck and watch the wee ones have fun.
My Mom was so surprised! She thought it was odd that I had balloons tied to my fence. She walked into the house and looked around to see her cousins, the expression on her face was priceless!! I'm so sorry I didn't have my camera at the ready. She had this look, like, what are you guys doing here?!? People came from far and wide to celebrate with us. Mom, I think is so grateful to everyone.
The one downside is that I have lost my voice, like totally completely. I had started losing my voice yesterday night, I was able to communicate with people during the party, but now, it's just a whisper.
Not having a voice has it's complications when you're taking care of two wee ones. The two things I really don't like about not having a voice are: not being able to read a bedtime story to the kids and not being able to sing to them/with them :(
Oh well, it's only temporary.
At any rate, the party really was a great success! Woohoo!!

VCUG
VCUG = Voiding cysto-urethrogram
Now try saying that 3 times fast!
That's the procedure Xavier had today. It was basically to determine whether or not any of his urine was going back into his kidneys.
We needed to go to Children's Hospital for this procedure. We headed into the X-Ray department where they promptly had Xavier change into a little gown. Of course, being the crazy Mom I am, I took pictures of him in this little gown. I have to admit he looked cute.
Richard stayed in the waiting room with Emma as I accompanied Xavier into the procedure room.
On the gurney, they had this little plank with metal bars on each end. On the plank there was a soaker placed there. They me put Xavier unto this plank, with head under one metal bar and his feet in front of the other metal bar. They then fastened 4 straps around his body to keep him still. One around the chest, one around the stomach, one around the legs and the final one around his ankles. He looked like a patient from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
They had me hold his hands above his head.
They washed his entire private area with iodine soap and proceeded to insert the catheter. They first collected a pee sample and then attached a solution to the catheter to fill his bladder. I was able to see Xavier's insides on a television screen as they took X-Ray's of everything that was going on. They did X-Ray's of him lying down on his back and on his side. Once all the solution was peed out of him, the whole ordeal was over.
Xavier did cry during the procedure, especially when the cath tube went in. Poor little guy. As soon as he was dressed, he was able to get some milk from Maman and all was right in the world again.
The Tech told me everything looked fine, so that's a relief. We have an appointment with the pediatrician next week and will find out the next step at that point.

Kildonan Park and Hi-Neighbour Festival
On Friday Richard got off work in the early afternoon. We took advantage of a nice afternoon by getting some ice cream from Dairy Queen and going down to Kildonan Park. We had a nice walk while Emma said 'hi' to the ducks and ran to the little park. She had a great time going up and down the slides, swinging and of course playing in the sandbox. In her own words, she built a castle! Great imagination that little one has. Xavier had fun swinging on his own in a baby swing, laughing as he went back and forth. He then had a chance to swing at first sitting on Papa's lap (on the big swing of course) and then on Maman's lap. Emma swung on Maman's lap as well.
We then walked over to the Witch's Hut (built in homage of the brother's Grimm stories).
Emma had fun feeding the ducks in the creek behind the hut.
Saturday in the morning, it was pouring rain. We got pratically soaked before even getting into the pool for the swimming lesson. Emma did really well in the lesson, as usual. The rain cleared off by the afternoon. The kids and I went to the Hi-Neighbour Festival. L'Arche had a booth and was giving away some yummy free food, which we took full advantage of. He checked out the rest of the festival, but I decided to skip the ride/game section as it was extremely crowded. Emma really wanted to go on the rides, however, I feel Tinkertown will be a much better place for her. Probably will go to Tinkertown during Richard's holidays later this month. I can't wait. I know Emma will just love it there!!
Tomorrow is Xavier's VCUG, I'm a little nervous for him, but I know he'll be a little trooper. Little guy.
Oh yeah! Today we had a visit from Pascale which was nice, she seems to have recovered well from her surgery last month. Also, she is buying a new bike so I will buy her old one! I'm so excited, I haven't had a bike since I came back to Canada, I left my old bike in France as a donation to the L'Arche community there. It's going to be nice. I saw at Toys 'r' Us they have this bike seat for your little one that you place in the front of the bike instead of the back. Supposed to be safer. You can bet I'll be saving up for that and of course a helmet for Emma. It's going to be great to back on a bike!
Also, we christened our new BBQ tonight. Our BBQ has a side burner, so I was able to sautee the onions and mushrooms while I cooked the veggie burgers. That was a great convenience. We enjoyed our wonderful first BBQ meal on the new deck Richard built, it was so nice. Right now Richard is giving me a little break as he gives a bath to both kids. All I can hear is a lot of splashing! I'm very happy today :-)

The tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth
Xavier has his first tooth, well actually teeth! His two bottom teeth are growing in at the same time! They finally broke through the gums on Wednesday, after a lot of pain and suffering. Now, the big question remains: Will he or won't he??? Bite me that is, while breastfeeding.
Emma had her first 4 teeth come in at 4 months old, she had 8 by 8 months and all her baby teeth pretty much by the time she was a year old. I breastfed Emma until she was 15 months old and never bit me, not even once. Will Xavier be the same? Hmmm, somehow, I don't think so..
Since we're talking about teeth, it should also be noteworthy to mention that Emma has all four 2 year mollars, giving her a complete set of baby teeth! Hooray!
Xavier has been experimenting with different foods. So far he's had:
Emma was sick earlier this week. We were out at "Bebe, parents et gazouillements" when Emma had a bout of diarhea. We came home where she threw up once and had one more messy diaper. A little bit of tylenol, pedialyte in popsicle form and gingerale seemed to the trick to get her back on track.
Yesteday she had a little accident in the backyard where she scraped the palm of her hand. It's not a bad "booboo", but it's one of her on personal worst, so it's causing her a little stress. Otherwise, she's fine.
The business of the stinky pee, by the way, is not quite finished yet. Xavier is needing to go to Children's Hospital on Monday to have a VCUG. I can't remember what the letters individual stand for anymore, however, it is a special kind of X-Ray. Basically they insert a cath tube into the poor little guy's penis. Through the tube they insert a dye to see if it goes all the way up to his kidney's, which would be a bad thing. They take X-Ray's to be able to see. Hopefully everything will go well.
On another note, Sebastien did not end up getting his surgery a few weeks back, apparently there was too much potassium in his system. The cause of his bleeding is still a mystery. Looks like Jasmina and little Sebastien will be in Toronto for a long time still.

Birthday party, first air course
On Saturday the kids had the pleasure to attend the first birthday party of one of their own friends. It was really nice, the party was outside. It's funny though, my kids were the only ones wearing wide brimmed hats, long pants and long sleeves. These mothers probably thought I was crazy or over protective, but that don't bother me. All in all, however, the kids had a great time, especially Emma of course.
Yesterday, I needed to re-certify myself in first aid (for work). Which meant I would be away from home ALL DAY. Luckily Polo Park shopping centre is across the street from St-John's Ambulance, so I was able to meet up with Richard and the kids so I could breastfeed little man.
The course was alright, you know, same old same old. A few changes to CPR, but overall the same. They didn't touch on infant CPR at all or infant related injuries, so I may take another first aid course specifically for this.
Xavier seemed to survive being seperated from me, however, by the end of the day he was getting antsy and tired of me playing what seemed to be a very long game of peek-a-bood.
